Pramiracetam (brand names: Pramistar, Remen) is a nootropic substance of the racetam family. Pramiracetam is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant and memory enhancer. It was developed in the 1970s and has shown to be more effective than Piracetam in clinical trials.

Pramiracetam is structurally similar to Piracetam; both are structurally derived from cyclopropyl-2-pyrrolidone. Pramiracetam's structure differs from Piracetam's because it contains an additional methyl group in the 4-position on the pyrrolidone ring system.

Pramiracetam's mechanism of action is thought to be similar to that of Piracetam; however, Pramiracetam has shown to be more potent than Piracetam in animal studies. Pramiracetam has also shown to increase cerebral blood flow.

Pramiracetam is fat-soluble and is absorbed rapidly from the gastrointestinal tract. It is metabolized in the liver and has a half-life of 5-6 hours.

Pramiracetam has shown to improve memory and cognitive function in human clinical trials. It has also shown to be effective in treating cognitive deficits in patients with brain injury, stroke, and Alzheimer's disease.
